There are people who i trust more than you, who have told me its a
nice city, but its "mildly racist". Definitely discourages me from
going there for a longish term although i will definitely go there at
some point in time in my life to watch a test match.

Fair enough you'll trust who you know, but did you mention they were
American? After working with people from many backgrounds in Australia,
I've noticed more racism towards Americans than any other nationality. As
soon as people hear that accent, there's often an immediate dislike. It's
also widely accepted; there's peer disapproval if one says they hate a
certain nationality, unless it's American. I kid you not.
Sure if you can't get the same money/position as elsewhere, there's little
point in relocating for work, but good to see you're not writing it off
fully. It's rated one of the worlds top tourist destinations for good
reason.

By the way i have traveled in 12 countries and not just traveled.
Lived for more than three months in each of those 12 countries. And
worked there. So i love going places.. just dont love going to
"mildly racist" places.

I've travelled a fair bit and worked overseas too, but I honestly don't
find Australia any worse than other places. Everywhere has bigots if you
look for them. In small towns, I can envisage small-mindedness, but in the
cities blatant racism is a rarity. Although with low-brow sensationalist
media and unique colloquialisms which include mates regularly calling each
other bastards and cunts, I can see how visitors could misconstrue the
behaviour of the populace.
